Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We offer free, no-obligation on-site estimates for residential and light commercial fences. We’ll measure your project, talk through options (wood vs metal, height, layout, gates), and provide a written estimate so you know exactly what to expect.

Why do you require a deposit?
For most projects we require a deposit to get you on the schedule. That deposit does three things: reserves your spot on our calendar, covers materials we order specifically for your job, shows that both sides are committed to moving forward, The deposit amount and payment schedule are spelled out in the written contract you sign before we start.

What areas do you service?
DC Fencing installs and repairs fences in Eastern New Mexico and West Texas, with most of our work in and around Clovis, Portales, and the surrounding communities. If you’re not sure whether you’re in our service area, just call or text and we’ll let you know quickly.

How long will my fence project take?
Most typical residential fences take 3–5 working days once we start, depending on: Fence type (wood vs metal), total footage and number of gates, access to the yard and ground conditions, larger or more complex jobs can take longer. We’ll discuss a realistic time frame during your estimate.

What types of fences do you build?
We install metal fences with square-tubing posts and clean, straight lines, wood privacy fences, and combination projects such as repairs with new sections and custom gates. If you are not sure what you want yet, we can walk you through the pros and cons of each option for your property and budget.

What is the difference between wood posts and steel posts?
Wood posts are traditional and usually lower cost up front, but in our sun and wind they can move, twist, and warp over time. That is normal behavior for wood. Steel posts cost more initially, but they provide a straighter, stronger fence line long-term, especially in heavy sun and high-wind areas. Many customers choose wood pickets with steel posts as a good balance of appearance and durability.

Will my wood fence warp or twist?
If you choose a wood fence, you should expect some warping, twisting, and cracking over time, especially on full-sun sides of the yard. This is normal behavior of pressure-treated wood in our climate and is not considered a defect. Our workmanship warranty covers installation errors, not the natural movement of wood. If you want the straightest possible fence line over the long term, we recommend upgrading to steel posts.

What kind of warranty do you offer?
We provide a written workmanship warranty that covers our installation, not just the materials. In general, workmanship is covered for three years and gates have a separate gate warranty period. Natural issues with wood such as warping, twisting, splitting, and fading, as well as storm damage, are not covered. Your specific warranty terms are included in the contract and Letter of Warranty you receive before we start.

What happens if there is a problem after installation?
If you notice something that does not look right after we complete your fence, contact us by call or text and describe the issue. We will schedule a time to inspect the fence. If it is a workmanship issue covered by our warranty, for example a rail or post not installed to spec, we will correct it at no charge. If it is something outside the warranty, such as normal wood movement, storm damage, or a requested upgrade, we can give you options and pricing to address it.

Do you call 811 and mark utilities?
Yes. Before we dig, we request utility locates for public lines so major utilities are marked. Customers are responsible for pointing out any private lines such as sprinkler, low-voltage, or other private utilities, and for providing a current survey or clear property line information if there is any uncertainty.

Do I need to be home while you are working?
You do not have to be home for the entire project as long as we have clear access to the work area and a way to contact you. We do recommend that you are available for the initial estimate, for the layout discussion before we start, and for the final walkthrough so we can review the fence together.

How do you handle property lines and surveys?
We build the fence where you tell us the property line is. If there is any doubt, we recommend that the homeowner provides a survey or verifies the line with neighbors before we start. We are happy to look at your survey with you and discuss layout, but we do not act as a surveyor or make legal determinations about property boundaries.

Will you remove my old fence and clean up?
Yes. If removal is included in your estimate, we will take down and haul off the old fence, remove construction debris from the work area, and perform a basic cleanup so your yard is usable when we leave. Cleanup details are listed in your contract so you know exactly what is included.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept common forms of payment such as cash, check, and standard electronic methods. The payment schedule, including deposit and final balance, is spelled out in your contract so there are no surprises.

How do I get started?
You can call or text us to schedule a free estimate. We will visit your property, talk through your goals, budget, and material options, measure the project, and provide a written estimate. If you decide to move forward, we will finalize the contract, take the deposit, and get you on the schedule.
